The Calm Before Dawn

I am an early riser. This becomes very apparent when we are on vacation and the alarms are turned off, yet I wake well before the rest of my family. This morning on our recent trip, I woke to see the sky beginning to lighten, and decided to get up to watch the dawn from the balcony of our room on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily. I watched as the clouds began to glow and the fishing vessels came out to start their work day. This boat did an interesting circle before moving on, can you see the remains of the wake? Such a calm and peaceful moment, it fills me with quiet joy even today. I hope it does the same for you!

The Exploring with a Camera: Capture the Sky link closed this morning. Have you seen the amazing images that were shared? If not, I encourage you to take a look at this link up and see the wonderful interpretations for Capture the Sky. They were breathtaking. I so enjoyed this theme, and greatly appreciate the wonderful participation from all of you.

Tomorrow will be a new Exploring with a Camera, come back for an exploration of photos in Square Format. See you then!

  1. Such a beautiful image, Kat. I love the little circle in the water. Your post reminds me of the magical dawn that greeted me when I awoke early on the Amalfi coast....just the memory makes me happy.

  3. There is just Something about morning, I so agree. Am learning to appreciate the dark but imagine I will always be drawn to the light!

  5. I'm generally not much of a morning person, but I have to admit that sunrises are amazing. You've captured a beauty here!

  8. Stunning photos like this make me wish I was the early riser in my family instead of my husband. I long to get some early morning "golden hour" photos but so far, the best I've managed is to get up early enough to hop on the treadmill for 20 minutes before rushing to the office. But I WILL get up early and get a lovely early a.m. shot, inspired by this photo of yours. Perhaps on my beach vacation in May . . . [...sigh...]

  9. I'm an early riser too - and that became very obvious during our honeymoon when both my husband and I were wide awake at 6 am. We would arrive at our favorite breakfast place at 7 and they hadn't opened yet.

  10. Beautiful! I think if we hope to capture the best photos in the best light, we have to be early risers! I wake up early, always, but sometimes struggle with leaving the warmth of a cozy bed early in the morning. It always seems to be worth it though!!
