Altering our View

I am musing today on Applied Texture over at Mortal Muses, come by and say hello. This image was captured on our day trip to Sirmione last weekend, and I just loved the piece of the castle jutting out into the lake. Beautiful light and reflections, a reminder of an era gone by. Perfect for a little texture to age it.

I love digital photography, for the way it can alter our view. Here's the original image, before the texture. A different feel, don't you agree? Which do you like best?

  1. I go back and forth on textures. I guess which one you like depends on whether you are documenting or storytelling. I also think, the memory I am making, what will that person want to remember? and go from there. Keep the kids photobooks very clean but when I am doing it for me, sometimes, go off the chart. My favorite textures are from Jerry and Shadowhouse Creations. They are free but more importantly, great fun to play with. For lots of texture, the Minute Monet app for my iPad is great fun. Have a wonderful day Miss K!

  2. What could I possibly add to the comment above? Perfectly articulated. :) I like the textured one.

  3. I think it depends on what you are using the photo for. The textured one looks old and more fanciful--would fit with an ancient tale laced with mystery and dragons. The clear one is more vivid and real--the endless, expansive water seems more the focus to me. Waiting--either for someone to arrive or to be able to leave for parts unknown.

  4. I think it's so fun that one can so easily put texture to alter a photo. I'm for it. I say let's use everything that's available to us. Love it.

  6. LOVE LOVE LOVE the texture! Textures takes a great photograph, and turns it into a piece of creative artwork. That's the beauty of them, there is no right or wrong, just your expression & interpretation. We can have it both ways!! :)

  8. I think this is a good example of a shot that is great for texture. It adds a mood to it that wasn't there before. Or rather it changes the mood. Really pretty. Have fun in London!

  10. I love the texture on this one, it gives it depth and makes it just a little mysterious.
