So Many Angles

Lately I've been thinking about time and space. I've started to see more personal time free up, and I have not been intentional with how I spend it. I've spent it on the computer, hopping around on the internet, reading blogs and getting "caught up." That certainly fills the time, but leaves me without the space for dreaming and scheming, letting the new ideas come and flow. Letting creativity take me where it will.

This line of thought, about how I spend my time and energy, is not new. It's been with me for a while as my Dramatic Cropping post will attest. These thoughts are a natural outcome right now of finishing my work on Find Your Eye as well as participation in Christine Kane's Uplevel Your Life Mastery Program. My brain is filled with a lot of thoughts about being clear and intentional about my time and energy.

I have no answers right now. There are just too many angles and directions to sort out in this moment. But I am aware and asking the questions, and that is always the start. Taking the first step, to start close in.

  1. I agree that hopping around on the internet, following interesting links, reading wonderful blogs - like yours:-) all takes a lot of time if you let it. I find the best way to pursue the dreaming and scheming is by walking in the countryside with no distractions (except maybe a dog!) and, dare I say it, maybe sometimes not even a camera.

  2. I spend way too much time on the internet and then wonder why I have so many "unfinished" things on my to-do list. Think I need to be more 'strict' with my allocation of time and yet it's so tempting to stay a few more minutes and read a few more blogs...

  4. Great post - I been feeling that I'm spending to much time reading about things instead of doing lately. Maybe time to change that

  6. Wonderful post that resonates...I'm trying to limit my time on the internet, but there's so much to see and learn. I just finished reading Hamlet's Blackberry, which discusses the lure of "screen time" and how we are being pulled in so many directions. He suggests unplugging one day a week to reconnect with ourselves. He calls it an "internet Sabbath" .

  7. I cut way back on the internet and it has been a really positive thing for me. Just honed in on the things that were most important to me--and they take up enough time. LOL!

I've been taking an online class about clearing my consciousness, so I've been clearing away a lot of mental clutter, myself. ;)

    Love the photo!

  9. When I look at a photo with an angle, my immediate response is to straighten it. It is my concrete nature. Doesn't matter why or what, I by default, want is straight. A personality flaw to be sure but it makes me wonder what else I straighten without knowing it and what if what I change is important to the Big Picture. Just read a great blog post by Donald Miller on takers - he meant people but I think anything that takes, could be included. Find you way, my friend...

  10. Like so many here, I'm spending way too much time on the internet. It's so much fun to read blogs and learn and comment and find some more... However, I have shut the internet out of most of my mornings (except Wednesdays) and rather spend that time in my "studio" or with friends or out with the camera. I know that I need time for simply dreaming, journaling, gardening. The stuff for my soul.
    I love the photo, Kat.

  11. I find that if I start up my computer, open my email, check the blogs and FB, it can be like a huge black hole and the morning disappears with nothing to show for it. Some days I discipline myself to only use the computer for creative projects. With no "peeking" at any of that, I get so much more done! Even when I retreat to my studio, I have a tendency to take my ipod and start looking at stuff. So for me, it takes intention to stick to what I want to accomplish and not get side-tracked. It's a constant battle, but worth the fight I think!

  12. It's such a difficult thing to balance.
I have been thinking quite about it lately and trying to pinpoint what I do because I love doing it, and what I do because I feel I should do it.
And I'm sure this is something that will continue to be reevaluated over time. I do appreciate your posts about this issue, nice food for thought.
