Creative Space

I come at you this morning from a blank page. No preconceived notion of what photo I will choose, what words I will write. No agenda. This is what creative space feels like. Breathe into it. Let the ideas expand to fill the space, let them go. New ideas will come to fill the space.

This weekend I spent some time being creative. Editing photos for fun rather than to get something together for a specific project. Creating a collage intuitively, to see what comes out. I need the time and space for these things, in order to maintain my balance and perspective. Do you find the same?

So I start again with a blank page. Sometimes the blank page can be frightening, but right now it feels wonderful. Maybe it's more like sitting in an empty room than a blank page. A room where I can see the door but I'm just going to pause here and rest for a while. Breathe in, breathe out.

Photo is from Casa Batlló, by architect Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona, Spain.

  1. I am on a blank page today myself. I am in between projects...pondering the next...will it be small and crafty for an upcoming show...or large and quirky for a proposal I am working on for Art Everywhere...hmmm

  2. I wish I felt I was on a blank page. Instead, I seem to have a whole jumble of thoughts, words, feelings and general 'stuff' on my page that I'm desperate to get rid of. My One Little Word for this year which is SLOW just isn't happening as far as my mind/thoughts are concerned. I'm going to try to swipe my page clean and put a meditation bell on it.

  3. You are so right. I think when we don't have a clear idea of where we are going, we think we have lost our mojo. I like the feel of knowing where I am going but need to cultivate the feel of creative space and not see it as a negative. Thank you for friend for the reminder!

  4. It is so important to pause and just breathe....that's why I love yoga so much -- it forces me to "leave everything outside the door".
The image is just perfect for your post. Grazie, Kat.

  6. Your post is like a breath of fresh air. I think we all need to stop occasionally to just create.

  9. Wonderful image, an empty space... I think I need more of that, and to learn how to just be still!
