Subconscious Choices

The other night as I was falling asleep, this image popped into my head as the next in my series. I'm not sure I completely agree, but I'm also not sure you can argue with your subconscious mind. It does as it wills. This image is from Lugano, Switzerland in December 2009. The odd thing is, I haven't thought about it twice since I took it. I never edited it or even noticed it in my photo review.

Here's my internal debate about whether to include this in the series:
- It is definitely a vehicle with groceries.
- Not really any crates involved .
- It's not red, but there is red in the photo.
- It's not in Italy but it's in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. But maybe the series is Europe?
Since this series seems to be evolving on its own, I guess I just have to follow along and see where it leads.

What do you think? Is it included or not? Here you can view images one, two and three.

I am off on vacation for the next week. Again. I know, it's crazy, but true. Tonight we go to Venice for one night, because it's Carnevale! This was one thing that I didn't want to miss in my No Regrets Year. Sunday we fly to Sicily for the rest of the week since Brandon has the week off of school. From what we hear, it's completely different from Northern Italy so it will be interesting. I have a few posts ready for you over the next week, and I'll be back with more pics in a little over a week.  Who knows, maybe more in the series will appear.

See you later!

  1. This should definitely be included - it fits exactly with your theme. Have a great week - Carnevale - you lucky thing! Your camera will be red hot. I go away for a week at the end of next week and since we're going to Wales (!! ever been there? It rains a LOT!) its unlikely there will be any sort of internet connection anywhere so I'll have to wait to see all your wonderful photos.

  2. Never mess with your subconscious! I think this it totally in. I look at this series as "transport and fresh vegetables." In each photo there is wheeled transportation and veggies. There is consistency with the crates and color but maybe that's just a bonus...?
The geography of the photos origin isn't important to me, but it's exactly the kind of thing that bugs the heck out of me when I go to try put my own stuff in categories...LOL.
I wish you a safe and exciting, inspiring trip! Can't wait to see what you shot..
    Best wishes from germany,
    tj

  5. Kat, this photo is charming and inviting, maybe even more inviting than the previous ones. They were charming but I didn't really want to ride the Vespa. I want to eat this fruit! I can't wait to see your photos and hear your tales from Sicily! I know you'll have a fabulous trip. :D)

  6. I have a great shot of a Guatemalan woman carrying avocados in a basket on her head and wonder: does this fit the bill? She is walking, which makes her a vehicle, of sorts. And she is transporting vegetables. Her huipile (traditional blouse)has a good deal of red in it. She spoke at least one word of Spanish (si si) which is the same word in Italian. So does she belong? Sadly this shot was taken in 1989 and is bent and battered and bruised so it would not translate well to scanning :(

  7. Of course, this photo belongs in the series -- it has wheels, doesn't it? I can't wait to see your images from Carnevale! Lucky you! Have a fabulous vacation!

  8. A series can, of course, be as broad or narrow in its parameters as one likes. I wouldn't argue with the subconscious mind either! Say, is there any room in your suitcases? Lucky you - Enjoy!
